In recent days, I have been deeply involved with improving the radio reception of my T4. Since I come from the audio and video industry, I also wanted to tackle the issue of the front speakers in the dashboard. That's how the project "VW T4 Speaker Adapter for the Dashboard" started.
The goal was to move the speakers out of the shelf area of the VW T4 dashboard and place them toward the passenger compartment. It took four attempts to design the right adapter. First, I had to reconstruct the old speaker grille to create the adapter from it. After several trials, the first grille was finished and fit perfectly. Then, I started designing the speaker housing.
The first version was functional, but still too bulky on the back and sides, and aesthetically unappealing. Some comparisons to a worm from *Dune* were definitely justified. Now, in the fifth version, I think I’ve found a good balance between functionality and appearance. I hope you like it!
Before the product is finalized, the following adjustments still need to be made:
1. A round guide that fits perfectly into the old speaker shaft in the VW T4 dashboard.
2. Screwing from the inside, so that the speaker adapter sits securely.
3. An internal mount for the Ground Zero speakers.
The adapter is designed for all 100mm speakers, but specifically optimized for the Ground Zero GZTF 4.0X speaker. The project is available as a free download for self-printing. I would greatly appreciate a small donation for a cup of coffee!
